eBay Fee Calculator Examples

These simplified examples show how fees, shipping, item cost, and advertising can affect the amount you keep.

Sale with Buyer-Paid Shipping

A seller lists an item for $100 and charges the buyer $10 for shipping. The example uses a 13.6% fee rate, a $0.40 fixed fee, and no promoted listing fee.

Given: Item price = $100, buyer-paid shipping = $10, fee rate = 13.6%, fixed fee = $0.40, promotion = 0%.

Calculation: Fee base = $110; variable final value fee = $110 × 13.6% = $14.96; fixed fee = $0.40; promotion fee = $0.00; total eBay fees = $15.36.

Answer: With a $45 item cost and $6 seller-paid shipping, estimated profit is $43.64 before other costs and tax obligations.

Sale with a Lower Fee Rate

A $50 sale with $5 buyer-paid shipping uses a 12.7% fee rate and no promotion. The item costs $22 and seller-paid shipping is $4.

Given: Fee base = $55, variable fee rate = 12.7%, fixed order fee = $0.40.

Calculation: Final value fee = $55 × 12.7% + $0.40 = $7.385, rounded to $7.39.

Answer: Estimated profit = $55 − $7.39 − $22 − $4 = $21.61.

Sale with Promoted Listing Costs

A $25 item has free shipping for the buyer, a 13.6% fee rate, a 3% promotion rate, $0.40 fixed fee, and $1.50 in additional listing fees.

Given: Item price and fee base = $25, final value fee rate = 13.6%, promotion rate = 3%.

Calculation: Final value fee = $3.40; fixed fee = $0.40; promotion fee = $0.75; additional fee = $1.50; total fees = $6.05.

Answer: With a $12 item cost and $4 shipping expense, estimated profit is $2.95.

eBay Fee Calculator FAQs

Answers to common questions about eBay fees, fee bases, category rates, promotion costs, and seller profit.

How much does eBay charge for each sale?

eBay selling fees depend on the marketplace, item category, seller account, Store subscription, and any optional listing or promotion services. Use your current category rate in the calculator to estimate the cost of a sale.

The fee base may include the item price, buyer-paid shipping, and applicable tax, depending on the marketplace and rule being applied. Check the fee details for your eBay site and enter tax only when it belongs in that fee base.

No single percentage applies to every item. Rates can vary by category, seller status, Store level, sale amount, and fee tiers. The sample rates are editable estimates, not a live quote or official confirmation of your specific fee.

Estimate profit by subtracting eBay fees, item cost, shipping you pay, and other business expenses from the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. Sales tax is excluded from seller revenue in this tool; income tax and other tax obligations are not calculated.
